Nokia Lumia 1320 Review

share on:

The Nokia Lumia 1320 is a phone that tries to straddle two worlds, but is in danger of failing to sit comfortably in either. On the one hand, it’s got the same phablet-sized dimensions as the bigger brother, the Lumia 1520. On the other, it has the spec list that rivals only the Lumia 625, a phone that’s been quietly released for the budget-fancier and doesn’t seem to be making great waves. It’s clear the market Nokia is going for here: Asian users who don’t want to spend oodles on a phone with the spec list of the Lumia 1520 but still want a number of the features.Nokia Lumia 1320 review

Gone is the decent camera in place of an average 5MP choice. The CPU is downgraded to an S4 dual core 1.GHz option, and while we don’t have information on RAM, we doubt it’s anything above 1GB and could be even less than that. The phone does, however, have a lot of design wins that many will appreciate. For instance, the covers are changeable, there’s a microSD slot under the hood, and the whole device has a curved form that makes it sit nicely in the hand without being too cumbersome.

Yes, that display is far too large for some people, but to others (notably those in China and Vietnam, a couple of the primary markets Nokia is targeting with the Lumia 1320) it will be the foray into phablets they’ve been craving.

DISPLAY     The Nokia Lumia 1320 has a 6-inch HD ClearBlack IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display. The display on the Lumia 1320 is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 (a level higher than the one present on the Lumia 1520) and comes with a number of added features including High Brightness Mode, Sunlight readability, Super sensitive touch and more. The phablet has a screen resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels with a pixel density of 245 ppi (pixel per inch).

HARDWARE The Nokia Lumia 1320 is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset. The Lumia 1320 is powered by a 1.7GHz dual-core Krait processor, Adreno 330 GPU and has 1GB of RAM. The Lumia 1320 might not seem to be as powerful as the Lumia 1520, but it definitely will offer speed and performance that will exceed your expectations.

OPERATING SYSTEM Like every other Nokia Lumia smartphone, the Nokia Lumia 1320 runs on Microsoft Windows Phone 8 operating system. The phablet will run on the latest version of Windows Phone 8, i.e. with the latest updates. So you can expect a lot of changes and improvements in the operating system that should improve and enhance your overall user experience. The new version of OS also brings bigger and better Tiles onto your home screen.

STORAGE The Nokia Lumia 1320 comes with only 8GB of internal storage. So before you decide to buy the Lumia 1320, you should know that you will only have 8GB of storage. But if you are okay with expanding storage later as and when you wish, and if the external storage is able to meet your needs, then the Lumia 1320 will be a winner because it has a microSD card slot that supports cards up to 64GB.

CAMERA The Nokia Lumia 1320 has a 5MP primary camera with autofocus and LED flash, and a front facing VGA camera. The primary camera provides support for features like geo-tagging and touch focus and has a sensor size of 1/4″. You will be able to record 1080p videos with the primary camera and VGA resolution videos with the front camera.

BATTERY Even though Nokia has compromised with the internal storage capacity and camera on the Lumia 1320, the phablet still has the exact same battery as the Lumia 1520. The Nokia Lumia 1320 is equipped with a non-removable high capacity Li-Ion 3400mAh battery. The battery is expected to give up to 25 hours of talk time on 2G and up to 21 hours of talk time on 3G. You can also expect a total standby time of up to 672 hours on 2G as well as 3G.

DIMENSIONS and WEIGHT The dimensions of the Nokia Lumia 1320 are 164.2 x 85.9 x 9.8 mm. The phablet weighs about 220 grams, which might seem to be a bit heavy, but you will get used to the weight. And anyways, a number of consumers prefer devices that feel heavy in the hands, so it’s more of a personal preference.

COLOR OPTIONS and PRICE Like every other Lumia smartphone, the Nokia Lumia 1320 will also be available in a variety of cool and lively color options. You are free to choose from yellow, red, white, and black. The Nokia Lumia 1320 is expected to be priced at $339 before taxes and subsidies. The phablet will be available first in China and Vietnam after which it will be available in Asian and European regions

. CONCLUSION The Nokia Lumia 1320 is definitely a mid-segment phablet, but we are happy with the offerings from Nokia. We definitely did love the Lumia 1320, but we will honestly tell you about the pros and cons of the phablet. The Nokia Lumia 1320 has a clear display, powerful chipset and a very high capacity battery. But on the other hand, there are some specs and features that the company could have improved. We would have been happy to see the Lumia 1320 have a better camera and a higher capacity internal storage. But we think Nokia must have already considered these points and might not have implemented them because of some specific reasons. But in the end, the Lumia 1320 still turns out to be a winner and with a price tag of under $350, the phablet will sell like candies and chocolate bars.
